Every Wednesday, 10 a.m.-noon
We invite breastfeeding moms to join us for our lactation support group meeting at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen.  Moms will have the opportunity to meet with a lactation consultant, as well as network with other breastfeeding moms. The group is designed to give breastfeeding moms encouragement and support, as well as helpful information and tips from our expert. This event is free, but please call Rosie at 930-2807 to reserve your space.

Thyme to Cook: January 18, 4-6 p.m.  Dinner: 6-6:45 p.m.
Kids, come and have some fun with others your age (6-12) at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen preparing a healthy and flavorful meal. Menu includes Vegetable Beef Stew, Asian Slaw, and Healthy Breakfast Cookies. The cost is $25 per child, and $5 per family member with an advanced reservation. Wellness Screenings: January 19, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
To stay abreast of your numbers, cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI and waist circumference screenings will be held by appointment at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. Results and interpretation in fifteen minutes with a simple finger stick. The cost is $20 for members and non-members. Scale Back Alabama: Weigh in January 22-26, 6 a.m.-8 p.m.;  
January 27, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.,  and January 28, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Scale Back Alabama is a free statewide weight loss contest designed to encourage Alabamians to get healthy with encouragement from a partner (only 2 to a team) with the help of online modules. St. Vincent's One Nineteen is a weigh in/weigh out site for the contest. Teams that lose ten pounds each in the ten weeks are eligible to win $1000, $500 or $250. Individuals who meet the goal but aren’t eligible for the team prizes may win one of the 40 $100 prizes. Since the first contest in 2007, Alabamians have lost more than one million pounds. Blood Drive: January 23, 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Share the love. Share life. Give blood. LifeSouth Community Blood Center will be at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen to accept your gift of life. One donation can save three lives! Alabama is currently in emergency need of Type “O” and platelets, but all types welcome. Refreshments and recognition item for all donors. Please eat well and drink plenty of fluids before donating. 

MIND Diet Cooking Class: January 23, 11 a.m.-noon
The MIND diet has been shown to help prevent Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and it’s heart-healthy. Join Registered Dietitian and Chef Jessica Ivey at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen to learn how to make Make-Ahead Veggie Omelet Breakfast Sandwiches, Chicken and Edamame Quinoa Salad with Grapes, Walnut-Crusted Salmon and Stewed Kale with Chickpeas, and Blueberry Balsamic Greek Yogurt Sundaes. Comprehensive Diabetes Education: January 24, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Cuisine at One Nineteen: January 25, 6-7:30 p.m.
Executive Chef Ben Vaughn, a former Food Network host, has opened a new restaurant, Root to Tail in English Village and will be the guest chef this month at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. Root to Tail is a southern farm-to-table restaurant that includes everything from the root of the vegetable to the tail of the animal. Come and experience this fine dining restaurant and its renowned chef. Bring a bottle of wine and a friend and enjoy this evening in a relaxing atmosphere.  The cost is $25 per person. Breakfast with the Expert: H.I.I.T Training vs Steady State Cardio: January 30, 8-9 a.m.

These can be overwhelming at points and confusing to the average gym member. Let’s get back to basics and examine what is at the root of each exercise trend, video and technique. Lupus Support Group:  February 3, 10 a.m.-noon
This group supporting lupus patients and their families will meet the first Saturday of every month at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. This event is free and is sponsored by the LUPUS Foundation of America-MID-SOUTH Chapter. Call 1-877-865-8787 for more information.

Supersitters: February 12, 4:30-6 p.m.
Supersitters is a class that covers basic babysitting information including bathing, feeding, changing diapers, appropriate games and activities for certain age levels, and safety. For ages 11 and older. The cost is $10 per person. Call Dial-A-Nurse at 939-7878 to register.

Blood Pressure/Body Mass Index Screening: February 13, 8-11:30 a.m.
A representative from Wellness Services will be screening for blood pressure and BMI in the front entrance at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. This is a free service.
